A Utah Highway Patrol trooper had a close call late last month after his cruiser was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer speeding along a highway.
Trooper James Wright was finishing up paperwork inside his patrol car following a traffic stop shortly after 6 a.m. on Feb. 23 when the truck struck the side of his vehicle, according to KUTV.
Police have released dashcam video to highlight the dangers law enforcement officers face on roadways.
Officials say the trooper was shaken up, but uninjured in the crash. Wright described looking up and seeing the tractor-trailer just inches from his face.
"It was a pretty dramatic hit," Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Rich Christianson told the news station, "80 thousand pounds is a lot of momentum to be coming at you."
This is the second close call from Wright, whose cruiser was rear-ended by a pickup truck in December.
