Two people were transported to a local hospital for evaluation after being struck by a Pueblo police officer Monday night.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Eric Gonzales said Tuesday that Officer Dennis Bogard was responding to a call around 11 p.m. Monday, when he struck James Valiant, 49, and Stacy Brown, 42, in the 1500 block of North Grand Avenue.

Gonzales said both were taken to a hospital as a precaution, but no serious bodily injury was reported.

Bogard remains on duty, he said.

The police said the preliminary investigation suggests that Valiant and Brown were crossing in the middle of the block when they were struck.

Bogard's vehicle wasn't damaged and neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the incident.

The Pueblo Police Department's traffic division is investigating the accident.

Gonzales said that investigation continues.

"The luxury we have is that there's video in the car," Gonzales said. "We're waiting to download that and view it."
