A Falls man was arrested after nearly hitting a sheriff's deputy on Sunday who was clearing debris from the road on Buffalo Street in Sanborn.
The deputy said he had his patrol car stopped in the southbound lane of Buffalo Street about 7:30 p.m. with its emergency lights activated while he was moving a large piece of debris that had been blown onto the road due to high winds.
While moving the debris, the deputy said he had to move quickly to avoid being struck by a white van traveling south that drove around his patrol car.
After clearing the debris, the deputy hopped in his patrol car and caught up with the van, pulling it over.
The driver, Keith M. Ulrich, 37, 8739 Point Ave., Niagara Falls, apologized for zipping around the patrol car and said he normally wouldn't drive that way.
The deputy said he could smell marijuana and when he asked Ulrich about it, he replied, "I just got a bud of weed from my friend." It was turned over to police.
Ulrich was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
