Mass. Officer Struck While Directing Traffic

A Wakefield, Mass. police officer was struck by an SUV while directing traffic Wednesday morning.

Officer Joseph Conway was working traffic detail at the four-way intersection of Main Street and North Avenue when he was hit by a 2011 Honda Pilot, according to The Wakefield Observer.

The 38-year veteran of the police department was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital with facial injuries and was expected to be held overnight for observation.

The driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Thomas Petrocelli, was uninjured in the crash.

Police said that Petrocelli is not facing any charges at this time and that the incident is currently under investigation.
