Virginia Officer Shot in Head During Traffic Stop

Police say the driver of a taxi cab opened fire on Alexandria Officer Peter LaBoy Wednesday.

An Alexandria motorcycle officer remained in critical condition Wednesday night after he was shot at least once during a traffic stop near a school.

Officer Peter LaBoy sustained several injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head, and is recovering in the ICU at MedStar Washington Hospital after undergoing surgery, according to The Alexandria Times.

The 17-year veteran of the department responded to a minor traffic infraction involving a taxi cab near the Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy in south Old Town shortly before noon when the driver opened fire as he approached.

Officials said that LaBoy was unable to return fire on Kashif Bashir.

The 27-year-old man fled the scene, but police were able to track down the cab in Fairfax County after pursing it for several miles.

Bashir was arrested and charged with the malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony charges.

The incident is currently under investigation.
