Police officials said that the two unrelated traffic accidents occurred Sunday morning.

Three Philadelphia police officers were injured after two unrelated traffic accidents Sunday morning.

In the first accident, an officer in the 14th District was traveling southbound on Musgrave Street toward East Washington Lane in East Germantown. As the officer drove through the green light around 8:10 a.m., police said, an unidentified woman driving a black Honda Civic ran the red light, causing the officer to crash into the Honda's driver's-side door.

The officer injured his right knee and was taken to Einstein Medical Center for treatment.

The Honda's driver reported no injuries but was taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.

In the second accident, two officers in the 18th District were responding to a call in West Philadelphia shortly before 11:30 a.m. when they struck a car and pole at the intersection of Chestnut and South 49th Streets.

As the officers traveled eastbound on Chestnut Street toward South 49th Street, another vehicle headed south on 49th Street toward Chestnut. Both vehicles reached the intersection at the same time. Police said the officers tried to swerve around the civilian vehicle, but ended up striking it and then a utility pole. The civilian vehicle also hit a light pole.

The officers had facial cuts and reported neck pain, police said. They were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where they were listed in stable condition. The driver of the other car, a woman, was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
