Oct. 29--FORT WORTH -- A teen waving at vehicles to warn them to avoid a wreck was killed early Sunday on Interstate 35W when he was hit by a driver suspected of being drunk, police said.

The 17-year-old from Grandview was knocked over a guardrail and fell 20 feet, according to preliminary police reports. Police were still trying to determine Sunday whether he was hit by a second vehicle after he landed on Rosedale Street.

Joshua Kaluzniak was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:53 a.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's website.

The wreck occurred about 2:40 a.m. in the 2700 block of I-35W, just over Rosedale Street.

The teen and other motorists had stopped to assist in an accident after a Jeep hit an abandoned vehicle in the southbound lanes of the highway, police said.

Kaluzniak had gotten out of his vehicle and was standing on the right shoulder of the highway, warning other vehicles, officer Clifton Miller said in a news release.

A black Lexus traveling south on the highway hit the teen, police said.

The driver was identified as Roland Wilfred Directo Jr., 43, of Fort Worth, who was arrested and accused of driving while intoxicated.

Directo was in the Mansfield City Jail with bail set at $50,000. He faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

A 42-year-old woman who was in Directo's car was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
