Man Allegedly Drags Ohio Officer During Traffic Stop
HAMILTON, Ohio -- A routine traffic stopped early Friday turned into a felony assault on a police officer.
Hamilton police reports indicate Joshua L. Dailey, 24, of South G Street was the passenger in a vehicle stopped for an equipment violation just past 2 a.m. on North Seventh Street.
After the vehicle's driver was found to be driving under suspension -- and ordered from the vehicle -- Dailey allegedly locked the doors and moved over to the driver's seat, according to police reports.
Officer Scott Arbino grabbed the suspect's neck and arms to keep him from putting the car in drive and steering away, police reports state.
Dailey was able to accelerate away from the scene, dragging Officer Arbino about 20 feet, reports indicate.
Arbino then released his grip on the suspect and pursued him in his patrol car. Dailey reportedly failed to stop at a flashing red light at North Seventh and Dayton streets and failed to use a turn signal.
The officer witnessed Dailey force entry into a home in the 1000 block of Heaton Street and had to be taken into custody using force, according to police reports.
Dailey is in the Butler County Jail on $150,000 bond for felony charges of felonious assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and failure to comply with the lawful order of a police officer.
Dailey also had outstanding warrants for failure to appear in Fairfield Municipal Court.
Dailey will appear in Hamilton Municipal Court July 13 for a preliminary hearing, according to court records.
