A Splendora police officer is in critical condition after being involved in a wreck with an 18-wheeler in Montgomery County early Monday morning.

Authorities said the officer, whose name has not been released, was driving on FM 1485 near Roberts Road about 1:30 a.m. when the tractor trailer turned in front of him, causing the officer to slam into the side of the truck.

The officer was taken by a medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center, and officials said he is in critical condition.

The truck driver was taken to Kingwood hospital for minor injuries from the wreck.

Officials are still investigating the crash, but troopers said the officer, who was returning from a service call, did not have his emergency lights on. It was unclear who had the right of way in the intersection.

No citations have been issued.
