COLONIE, N.Y. -- A car salesman was arrested during a test drive Monday after officers ran his driver's license and discovered he had outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to police.

The incident unfolded just after 3:40 p.m., when Leroy Pelton, a salesman for Goldstein Buick on Central Avenue, was riding in the passenger seat while a customer took a car out for a test run, police said.

Police gave the following account:

When the car turned off Central Avenue and down Red Fox Lane, an officer saw that the vehicle did not have any license plates. An officer pulled the car over near the intersection of Red Fox Lane and Hunting Road, less than a mile from the dealership.

Pelton explained that he was a taking a customer for a test drive, but police ran both his and the customer's licenses.

The customer's record came back clean, but the Pelton's showed that he had two outstanding warrants out of Troy, one for writing a bad check and another for petit larceny, police said.

Pelton was arrested, arraigned in town court and released pending a future court date.
