BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --
Police said a man running from the cops ate methamphetamine while trying to get away.
Bakersfield Police officers said that at about 3:40 a.m. Monday, an officer attempted to stop a blue Buick sedan at South H Street and Brundage Lane for vehicle code violations.
Jerry Allen Walker, 35, failed to yield and lead officers on a several mile chase southbound on State Route Highway 99, Detective Fred Calvillo said.
While traveling southbound on SR 99, Walker tossed several baggies out of the vehicle and then pulled over in the area of State Route 99 and Taft Highway, Calvillo said.
Officers had located loose methamphetamine on the driver’s seat of the Buick, Calvillo said.
Walker was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sales, transportation of a controlled substance and reckless evading a peace officer.
Calvillo said that prior to being booked, Walker began to show signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
He admitted to eating methamphetamine during the pursuit and was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment, Calvillo said.
He was admitted to the hospital for observation.
