ATLANTA --
An Atlanta police officer is recovering after being injured in a car wreck Saturday afternoon.
Investigators said Officer Shawn Houston with the Atlanta Police Department lost control of his car and hit a telephone pole on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Westview Cemetery.
One witness said he saw the officer’s car flip several times.
"I saw the car tossing about three, four times. When I pulled into the drive way I noticed it was a police officer's car and then I seen him crawl out and the rest of the cars came up behind him at the same time," the witness said.
Several people at the scene told Channel 2 Action News the officer was speeding down the road.
Lt. Stacie Gibbs with APD said, "We don't have any reason to believe at this point that he was speeding. The accident is under investigation."
Houston was the only person involved in the accident.
He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for lacerations to his face and head.
Investigators said Houston was expected to be alright.
