Versaterm Integrates Aloft to Simplify FAA Authorization for Public Safety Drone Operations
What to Know
- Aloft’s FAA-approved USS capabilities are now integrated into Versaterm’s DroneSense platform for streamlined drone management.
- The combined platform enables real-time airspace authorization, reducing delays and manual workflows for public safety drone missions.
- This acquisition supports faster deployment during emergencies while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.
Versaterm has acquired Aloft, an airspace intelligence and flight authorization provider, in a move aimed at streamlining drone operations and regulatory compliance for public safety agencies.
The acquisition brings Aloft’s Federal Aviation Administration–approved Unmanned Service Supplier (USS) capabilities directly into DroneSense by Versaterm, allowing agencies to manage drone missions, airspace authorizations, and compliance requirements within a single operational platform.
Aloft provides real-time airspace intelligence and powers the majority of Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) authorizations in the United States, according to the company. LAANC enables approved operators to receive near real-time authorization to fly in controlled airspace, a frequent requirement for public safety drone missions.
By integrating Aloft into DroneSense, Versaterm aims to reduce fragmented workflows that often require agencies to rely on manual or external processes to obtain Federal Aviation Administration approval before launching drone flights. The combined platform is intended to support faster deployment while maintaining regulatory compliance during time-sensitive incidents.
“Aloft is a natural complement for DroneSense by Versaterm and will remove blockers our partner agencies face on a day-to-day basis,” said Steve Seoane, chief executive officer of Versaterm. He said the integration is designed to help agencies improve how they respond to and communicate during operations.
Jon Hegranes, founder and chief executive officer of Aloft, said the company was built to provide the airspace intelligence layer for modern drone operations and that joining Versaterm expands its reach across public safety, government, and critical infrastructure users.
The acquisition builds on Versaterm’s July 2025 purchase of DroneSense, a drone fleet management and situational awareness platform widely used by public safety agencies. Since October, DroneSense has been integrated into Versaterm’s computer-aided dispatch systems, enabling dispatchers to launch drone missions in a manner similar to patrol, fire, or emergency medical services unit deployments.
According to Versaterm, adding Aloft provides the regulatory and authorization layer needed to make drones a routine operational resource rather than a specialized or ad hoc capability. For law enforcement agencies, the integration is intended to support consistent compliance with airspace rules while reducing delays that can affect officer safety, situational awareness, and incident outcomes.
