The BWI Automated Reporting System is an Internet-based program for collecting, storing and delivering transaction information gathered in pawn shops and secondhand goods businesses. This program links police services to a real-time database that displays information on transactions occurring in pawn and secondhand businesses. All information is transferred by Internet into the BWI database Police Services using BWI have round-the-clock access to a database that covers jurisdictions across the country. There is no cost to Police Services. System costs are covered by a modest user transaction fee paid by the customers using pawn shops and secondhand stores.
