Crime and crash scenes can now be mapped faster now with the new MapScenes Evidence Recorder Version 10. Making this possible is the software’s powerful video streaming feature that takes advantage of the integrated cameras and scanning capabilities of Leica Nova MS50, a multi-station that incorporates 3D point cloud measurements into a regular mapping workflow. The EVR10’s video streaming allows the operator to visually define the scanning areas of his project, and point cloud files of the scans can be automatically transferred from the total station.

Stan Oglesby, a crash reconstructionist at Midwest Accident Reconstruction Services, Concordia, Missouri, who has been using MapScenes Evidence Recorder software for years, said EVR10 is valuable for recording data at grade crossing incident scenes where detailed data collection is vital. Whether used with a total station, GNSS receiver, or laser scanner, EVR10 is very effective for forensic mapping, Oglesby added.

Project workflow in EVR10 is vastly improved. Specifically, the software offers streamlined project creation that centralizes project settings. Combined with automatic instrument reconnection, Bluetooth device and Network RTK Manager, this allows the user to create a new project and start collecting data in only two clicks, significantly improving work efficiency and saving time at the scene.
