F1000 Series Portable Radio

June 26, 2014

Icom America launched the F1000 Series, a compact portable radio with convenient features such as a built-in motion sensor, channel announcement function, secure conversation, loud audio and a rugged waterproof chassis. The radio is ideal for education, hospitality, amusement park, health care and property management markets.

Icom's new F1000 Series portable radio is IP67 for waterproof and dust-tight protection. The radio's slim casing can withstand submersion in one meter (~3.28 feet) of water for 30 minutes and prevents the ingress of powder dust, sand, mud and other debris. The waterproof battery pack (BP-279) provides 14 hours of typical operating time. Like all Icom radios, the F1000 Series meets tough MIL-STD 810 military specifications.

"This robust radio series provides analog users with advanced options at a cost-conscious price point," says Joe Collica, Icom America National Sales Manager - Land Mobile. "You are truly getting much more for less cost in Icom's new F1000 series."

The F1000 promotes practical emergency features such as a built-in motion sensor. The radio detects states of motion/non-motion and can send an emergency signal accordingly. Additionally, the F1000 includes programmable "man down" and "lone worker" emergency functions. An alert is sent to coworkers or dispatch when the radio is left in a horizontal position or not operated for an extended period of time.

The F1000 Series is obtainable in three interface options: no display, display with 4-key and display with full DTMF keypad. The portable has a built-in bridge-tied load (BTL) amplifier and delivers 800mW of loud audio (typical) - perfect for users operating in noisy environments. As an added convenience, the radio's channel announcement function reports the selected channel by rotating the channel knob. This allows users to make radio adjustments without having to look at the radio. To ensure secure conversation, the F1000 has a built-in inversion voice scrambler with up to 16 selectable codes.

Icom's new radio is available now in VHF and UHF (F2000 on 400-470 MHz only; 450-512 MHz available January 2015).
