Calif. Police Union Files Injunction over Recording Officers' Vax Interviews

The San Diego Police Officers Association wants officers to be able to record interviews with officials concerning the vaccine mandate, something the city isn't allowing, the union claims.

San Diego's police union is seeking an injunction concerning the recording of interviews with officers about the city's COVID vaccine mandate.

The San Diego Police Officers Association announced the legal action Wednesday, KSWB-TV reports. The city's vaccine mandate went into effect Dec. 1, but officials are still sorting through exemption requests.

Nearly 500 police officers had asked for a vaccine exemption as of Tuesday. The majority of those requests were for religious reasons, and 10 were because of medical conditions.

At the heart of the injunction is the ability for officers to record their interviews with city officials concerning the mandate. Jack Schaeffer, the head of the union, claims the city has prohibited officers from recording these meetings.

“Most interviews that can lead to serious discipline, we have the right to record,” he told KSWB. “We feel like this is one of those interviews because if they don’t like your answers or whatever – up to termination is what the discipline would be for some of these reasonable accommodations not given.”
