Maryland State Police Trooper First Class Alec Elijah Cohen, 29, was found unconscious at his home Friday, and he died Saturday at the hospital.
Colleagues are mourning the loss of a Maryland State Police trooper who died over the weekend.
Trooper First Class Alec Elijah Cohen, 29, was found unconscious at his home in Baltimore on Friday, WJZ-TV reports. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and placed in intensive care, where he died Saturday.
“This is a significant loss for the Maryland State Police family," the state police said in a statement. "Our heartfelt condolences go out to Trooper First Class Cohen’s family and loved ones. TFC Cohen will always be remembered for his extraordinary commitment, selfless service and unwavering dedication to the citizens of this state as a Maryland State Trooper."
No details were released concerning the cause of death, and an autopsy will be performed.
Cohen had been with the Maryland State Police for nearly five years and had been assigned to the agency's North East Barracks.
