Someone sign this officer up for the NYPD softball team.

An NYPD sergeant with an arm like a cannon created an indoor rainstorm at a Brooklyn precinct station house, accidentally breaking a ceiling sprinkler with the errant toss of a set of car keys, police sources said.

The sergeant, who was working in the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, tossed a set of patrol car keys to another cop just after 3:40 a.m. on Monday, but the keys hit the sprinkler instead, sources said.

The sprinkler spray poured down onto the first floor, sources said.

“The whole first floor is flooded,” one police source said, “including the commanding officer’s office, CompStat, everything!”

The source called the spray “a complete disaster,” leading to damaged electronics and records, and transferred prisoners.

Video shows the broken sprinkler gushing, as as a woman out of frame remarks: “Um, wait, how long has this been going on? That is a lot of water.”

The errant key toss was an honest mistake that caused only a single sprinkler to go off, an NYPD spokesman said Tuesday.

“This was a complete accident,” NYPD Sgt. Edward Riley said. “Officers immediately took action to shut off the water, causing minimal damage.”
