Naugatuck Police Department headquarters — A suspect was arrested after Naugatuck police officers say he had already removed some copper piping and was attempting to take more from equipment at headquarters.

NAUGATUCK, CT—A 20-year-old man was charged with stealing copper piping from Borough-owned air-conditioning equipment at police headquarters, police said.

Police officers interrupted the theft in progress about 12:30 a.m. Thursday behind the building at 6 Rubber Ave., according to the Naugatuck Police Department.

The man, identified as Jeremiah Torres, had already removed some copper piping and was attempting to remove additional material, police said.

Torres was charged with sixth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, possession of burglar’s tools, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and improper use of a registration.

He was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 9, police said.
