A Baltimore County employee was injured Tuesday morning after a boiler exploded at a police precinct in White Marsh, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.
The employee, who fire officials said was working on the boiler when it malfunctioned, suffered non-critical injuries and was taken to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Police spokesperson Joy Stewart said Tuesday that the boiler was located in a utility room on the other side of the building from the lobby. She added that at the time of the blast, around 10:50 a.m., no prisoners were inside the precinct.
Fire officials wrote on social media that the building is safe, but that as a precaution, an engineer will evaluate a structural crack.
The boiler explosion did not cause a fire, authorities said, and the precinct is open to the public.
