A man police say left a hoax bomb outside an NYPD substation in Times Square, shutting down a section of the Crossroads of the World for a brief time, has been arrested and is facing terror charges, officials said Tuesday.
Desean Maryat, 26, committed a slew of criminal offenses, including reckless endangerment, making terroristic threats and threatening mass harm, when, around 10:30 a.m. Monday, he placed the cylinder-like object outside an NYPD satellite precinct at the corner of W. 43rd St. and Seventh Ave., cops said.
Maryat was seen placing the suspicious article near the door of the building and running off.
Cops immediately called in the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit and the Bomb Squad to investigate.
They cordoned off Seventh Ave. between 43rd and 42nd Sts. as a cop in a bomb suit was recorded looking over the item, which turned out to be non-hazardous, officials said.
Maryat was grabbed nearby.
He was charged a few hours later, after the street was reopened.
His arraignment on terror and other charges was pending Tuesday.
