A Florida deputy was injured when he was run down in the parking lot of the agency's headquarters earlier this week by a woman who was arrested after driving off.
The incident happened Monday when a woman a filed a report at the front desk of the Lee County Sheriff's Office in Fort Myers concerning a woman in the parking lot, according to a social media post by the agency. Deputy Bruce Fowler, who was working at the front desk, took the report, and a disturbance began that brought him outside to talk with the other woman, identified as Aran Baker.
Fowler tried to de-escalate the situation, but Baker began to act erratically. As Fowler began walking back to the station to get assistance, Baker put her car in reverse and struck the deputy before speeding off.
Detectives located Baker in a store nearby, and they attempted to take her into custody. She resisted deputies, but she was finally arrested and charged aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence.
Fowler suffered injuries to his leg and is recovering.
"I am absolutely outraged by the actions of this criminal," said Sheriff Carmine Marceno in a statement. "This woman showed a complete lack of regard for Deputy Fowler who was attempting to assist her. I will NOT tolerate this behavior towards my family members. I am proud of the detectives who diligently worked the case, ensuring this woman is behind bars where she belongs."
