EASTON, Pennsylvania -- A 45-year-old Easton man, during a “mental health episode”, crashed a Mercedes into a barricade Monday night on North Fourth Street in the city’s Downtown and then into a wall outside the nearby police station, an official confirms.

The incident happened about 8:20 p.m., police Capt. Sal Crisafulli told lehighvalleylive.com.

The barrier protects the crane that is putting up the new city parking garage on the east side of the first block of North Fourth. Officers were not pursuing the vehicle, he added.

After hitting the barricade, the man turned into the police station lot and may have been attempting to park, Crisafulli said. The man got out of the Mercedes, but didn’t put it into park and it rolled into the wall, which is opposite the police station and not far from the entrance, Crisafulli said. No police vehicles were damaged.

During the day, barricades also are set up at North Fourth and Spring Garden streets, but they come down at the end of the work day, Crisafulli said. The second set of barricades remains up nearer to the construction zone, Crisafulli said.

The man was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, Crisafulli said. The man wasn’t hurt, the captain added.

No charges have been filed, Crisafulli said.
