Building 36 provides training spaces for the Federal Protective Service (FPS) at Glynco’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Georgia.

This facility received the Training Facilities Silver award in the 2022 Officer Station Design Awards.

Building 36 provides training spaces for the Federal Protective Service (FPS) at Glynco’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). The original facility remains as the “hub” of the training center with the three-story addition containing four unique “pods” designed to recreate tenant agencies that FPS serves in Federal Facilities.

The original building contains four classrooms with three offices. Additional training space was created on the second floor by closing an atrium and establishing a 720 square-foot lab space for display of construction materials.

The design concept for the 22,400 square-foot addition is to portray unique building environments that reflect the characteristics found in four typical Federal facilities: a Social Security Office, a modern Federal Office Building, a historic Federal Courthouse, and a mail processing facility. Exterior elevations reflect the characteristics of each facility with a change in materials and ingress/egress components. On the first floor, unique training spaces complete with scanning/detection devices are provided along with associated classrooms. A fifty-person multi-purpose room is provided.

The second floor of the addition houses three classrooms with four breakout spaces located nearby for individual group discussions and role-playing. Two control training rooms are provided with dual wall-mounted monitors to simulate camera and lighting surveillance.

The third floor of the addition contains a large open office and a conference room. Two training rooms are available for student presentations. A roof terrace/garden for staff is also provided.

Building components and assemblies are exposed to provide students with visual knowledge of systems. Ceiling suspension grids fitted with translucent panels are utilized to illustrate vulnerable situations for building protection. Low sloped roofs are made accessible for observance of rooftop HVAC equipment and the potential for security violations. The loading dock/secure mail facility has mock emergency shut-off HVAC system devices needed for the training of environmental attack response.
