HAMILTON COUNTY, Texas -- The sheriff of Hamilton County, near Waco, was arrested Jan. 7 and charged with multiple counts related to the sale of counterfeit weight loss drugs in the county, KCEN-TV reported.

Sheriff Jason Bradley Boulton is charged with abuse of official capacity, tampering with government records, failing to report a felony and making a false statement to law enforcement.

Most of the charges are misdemeanors, except for tampering with government records, which is a second-degree felony.

Boulton is accused of failing or refusing to arrest a woman, Erika Bedell, on a charge of practicing medicine without a license causing harm, KCEN reported. Bedell was arrested in September on felony charges related to selling counterfeit GLP-1 weight loss drugs.

In failing to arrest Bedell, Boulton failed to prevent the delivery of dangerous drugs and failed to report the commission of a felony that could’ve resulted in bodily injury or death, authorities told KCEN.

Boulton is also accused of falsifying community service records for Bedell on five separate occasions, stating that Bedell had worked community service hours she didn’t actually complete.

Boulton bonded out after being booked into the Coryell County Jail, according to KCEN.
