$8 Homeless Donation for Slain Ind. Police Officer Spreads Kindness

An anonymous donation from a city's homeless community to help the family of a slain Indiana police officer has created a domino effect of kindness through the area.
Richmond Police Officer Seara Burton, 28, had been in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital since she was shot in the head during an Aug. 10 traffic stop. She was taken off life support in early September after doctors determined her injuries were "unrecoverable." Once off life support, she continued to fight for her life and was moved to a hospice facility, where she died on Sept. 18.

According to Richmond Police Lt. Donnie Benedict, the police department received an anonymous donation for Burton on Sept. 1, WRTV-TV reports. The $8 were in an envelope with "People from the Street" written on it.
"There have been many valuable gifts given in honor of Seara. However none, and I mean none, are more valuable than the gift of eight $1 bills in a dirty white envelope," Benedict told WRTV.
"What do you say to it? I mean it's amazing that somebody decided to do that," he added.
Benedict talked about the donation at Burton's funeral, and since then, the community has rallied around the immense act of kindness. In fact, residents were so moved that Amber Conley, who owns the Twice As Nice thrift and consignment store in nearby Connersville, saw an incredible influx in donations.
"(W)e've got more donations in the last 12 hours than we have in the entire 3 days. It's been insane," she told WRTV.
