Pa. Police Chief Invited to State of the Union Address

Bethlehem Police Chief Michelle Kott was chosen as Rep. Susan Wild's virtual guest for the speech because of her efforts "to connect the police force to the people they protect.”

Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07) announced Bethlehem Police Chief Michelle Kott as her “Hometown Hero” virtual guest to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday.

Kott took the helm in 2020 and is Bethlehem’s first female police chief. She joined the department in 2004 after graduating from DeSales University with a degree in criminal justice.

“Chief Michelle Kott has been an exemplary local leader — dedicating her career and work to the safety and well-being of the people of Bethlehem,” Wild said in a statement. “She has met the challenges of our community with empathy and compassion and has worked tirelessly to connect the police force to the people they protect.”

Prior to Biden’s speech, Wild and Kott will hold a virtual press conference at 3:30 p.m. to discuss what they hope to hear tonight.

Biden will give his State of the Union Address at 9 p.m. which can be streamed live on YouTube.
