WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A Washington Metropolitan Police sergeant died Thursday morning after suffering a medical emergency following her shift.
Sgt. Donna Allen, who was assigned to Third District Patrol, had worked her midnight tour of duty when she fell ill, according to a news release.
Officials said that at this time it does not appear her death was COVID-19 related, but further medical tests are being conducted. Allen had over 30 years of service with the Metropolitan Police Department.
"Sergeant Allen's unexpected passing brings the MPD family great sadness," Police Chief of Police Peter Newsham said in a statement. "Her friendship and good nature will be missed by many. I offer my deepest, most heartfelt condolences to Sergeant Allen's family and friends at this time."
Allen is survived by her mother and five siblings.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
