Indiana law enforcement agencies bring awareness to cancer research and treatment
The Tipton Police Department (Ind.), Tipton County Sheriff’s Office (including jail staff), Windfall Police Department, and Tipton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #109 completed the month-long fundraiser known as “No-Shave November – Back the Beards.” Officers from these agencies were allowed to grow facial hair during the month of November to bring awareness to cancer research and treatment.
Officers were responsible for collecting donations from the public, as well as, contributing to the cause themselves in exchange for permission to grow the facial hair. As a result, $5,400 was the total amount raised by officers from the agencies mentioned above. During the month of November every law enforcement officer in Tipton County wore a decorative pin on their uniforms to show support for cancer patients.
On Thursday, November 30, 2017 officers met with staff from Tipton IU Health Hospital and the IU Simon Cancer Center to present them with a check for all donations received. The money will be directed to the Discovery Fund and will be used for cancer research in the areas of treatment and patient care. It was also learned that the Indianapolis Colts organization will be matching donations; therefore, the money raised by Tipton County law enforcement will be doubled and the Discovery Fund will be awarded a grand total of $10,800.
