The Skagit County Sheriff in Mount Vernon, Washington took to social media on Thursday to voice his disgust after a group of his deputies were told by the owner of a restaurant that they were not welcome to dine there.

According to the post by Sheriff Will Reichardt, four deputies were finishing up lunch at the Lucky Teriyaki restaurant in Sedro-Woolley when the owner told two deputies who went up to pay that other customers didn’t like law enforcement there and requested they no longer eat there.

"I understand a business owner has a right to refuse service if he wants to," Reichardt wrote. "I also understand that as customers we all have the right to find some other restaurant to take our lunch break in.

On Friday, the sheriff posted an update that he met with the owner of Lucky Teriyaki and his son and that they apologized for the incident and expressed their desire to accept everyone to their business, including law enforcement officers.

Reichardt told them that he was appreciative and grateful for their willingness welcome everyone to visit their restaurant and hoped the matter could quickly be put in the past.

"Thank you to all of the citizens who expressed support for law enforcement in Skagit County," he said in the post. "Please accept that this matter has been resolved to our satisfaction, and we encourage everyone to patronize Lucky Teriyaki."
