An investigation has been launched by the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. after an officer allegedly "dry-fired" his firearm at another officer's head during roll call Saturday afternoon.
Law enforcement sources told WUSA-TV that a sergeant had "secretly" ordered the officer to unload his weapon and then pretend to fire on his colleague as part of a training exercise on situational awareness.
The officer reportedly pulled the trigger of the unloaded weapon while pointing it at the head of an officer until it clicked.
Both the officer and the sergeant are assigned to regular duties pending an internal affairs investigation
"I can tell you there are about seven different versions of the incident that are out there," Police Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters Monday. "I'm not sure which or how many of those that you've heard, but I prefer to wait until I see some facts and some direct statements of what happened before I make a judgment."
Several officers asked about the incident told WUSA-TV that they are furious that sure a "training exercise" would be ordered, fearing that another officer could have drawn their weapon and fired at the officer who "dry-fired."
Sources told the news station that at least one officer did pull his weapon on the officer during the incident.
