The Sarasota Police Department was left without phone and Internet services Friday morning, and it had nothing to do with April Fool's Day.

Officials said in a news release that a Verizon fiber line was cut in the Tampa Bay area, leaving the department without internal phones and Internet service on April 1.

"We wish this was an April Fool's joke but it is not," a statement read.

The police department directed residents to call 941-724-2350 or 941-724-2731 or 941-724-2295 and the non-emergency number at 941-316-1199.
