A memorial honoring fallen officers was vandalized early Monday morning, almost exactly one year since it was first defaced, and in a similar fashion.

Red paint was found poured on the Denver Police memorial -- just as it was on Valentine's Day last year, according to KUSA-TV.

Officials said they have surveillance video of the incident and believe they know who was responsible.

"I really felt sick," Denver Police Chief Robert White told the news station. "That memorial really represents men and women who have given their lives serving this community, and to deface it is a dishonor to those individuals as well as to the men and women of this department and this community as a whole who supports what we do each and every single day."

The person or persons found responsible could be charged with trespassing, defacing property and criminal mischief.

The memorial, located in the 1300 block of Cherokee Street, was power washed Monday morning after the vandalism was discovered.

Last year, 23-year-old Matthew Goldberg and 25-year-old Robert Guerrero were arrested and convicted with pouring red paint on the memorial.

White believes the new incident of vandalism occurred because it's one year after the first one.
