Colorado Firefighters to Dress Less Like Police

Sept. 11, 2015
West Metro firefighters have been ordered to change their uniforms to look less like police officers in light of recent threats made against law enforcement in the area.

Firefighters in the Denver area are being ordered to change their uniforms to look less like police officers.

The decision by the West Metro Fire Department to switch to its Class C uniforms was made after recent threats made to police in Denver and Aurora, according to KDVR-TV.

Firefighters are being told to have a more casual look, wearing blue T-shirts with the words "Fire-Rescue" in large letters on the back as opposed to the department's traditional uniform that includes a blue shirt with a collar and a badge and closely resembles that of a police officer.

An anonymous call was made to Aurora police dispatch this past Sunday that threatened to kill every Denver or Aurora police officer seen in uniform alone.

Officials have not said if the change will be permanent, but in light of the recent attacks on police officers, they say they are not taking any chances.

The nearby Arvada and Westminster fire departments also have changed to their Classs C uniforms to distinguish themselves from the police.
