Two North Texas women are accused of using a drone to fly plastic crow decoys filled with contraband into a federal prison in central Louisiana, authorities say.
The suspects were trying to smuggle drugs, cellphones and tobacco inside the plastic birds, according to the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The crow decoys were dropped from a drone onto the prison grounds, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office arrested 38-year-old Melanie Jean Worthington, of Joshua, Texas, and 41-year-old Kassy Marie Cole, of Hurst.
The women face charges of possession of methamphetamine and marijuana with the intent to distribute and taking contraband into a penal institution.
The suspects admitted to being paid $40,000 to smuggle the items, the Sheriff’s Office said.
