An officer was shot in the neck on the night of Fourth of July while responding to a call at the Prairieland Detention Facility in Alvarado, officials said.
Alvarado police offers were dispatched to the detention center in the 1200 block of Sunflower Lane around 10:56 p.m. Friday, according to the Johnson County sheriff’s office. The call was made to investigate a report of “a suspicious person.”
When they arrived police saw someone who appeared to be carrying a firearm, deputies said. As responders attempted to interact with the person, multiple suspects opened fire, according to a news release.
The suspects attempted to flee but several were taken into custody, the sheriff’s account said.
An Alvarado officer was struck in the neck by at least one bullet, officials said. The officer was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for medical treatment and has been released.
