The brother of a slain Sheffield police officer says there was another side to former Lauderdale County jail supervisor Vicky White other than what was portrayed on the news while she was on the run with capital murder suspect Casey White.
“Those of you that did not have the pleasure of knowing this amazing woman I don’t expect you to understand the hurt we feel,’’ Billy Risner, brother of Sheffield Sgt. Nick Risner, who was killed last year when he was shot by a murder suspect, posted on Facebook.
“Only thing you know is what you have seen on the news.”

Billy Risner, a former Lauderdale County sheriff’s deputy, asked his Facebook followers to read a little about his life with Vicky White.
The 56-year-old jailer died by suicide one week ago today, more than a week after she walked out of the Lauderdale County Jail with Casey White, 38. Authorities later learned the two had been in a relationship for two years.
A nationwide manhunt found the couple in Evansville, Ind. A brief police chase ended in a rollover crash at which point Vicky White shot herself in the head, and Casey White was taken into custody.
“When I started at the sheriff’s department, she was a rover sergeant. She volunteered to work anytime you needed her and boy did she work,’’ he said. “She treated everyone with nothing but respect and was so kind.”

Vicky White, he said, would not hesitate to fight if needed.
“I’ve seen her go up against big mean guys that made me nervous to fight, and I also seen her sit and pat those same guys on the back when the fight was over and tell them it will all be OK,’’ he said.
When Billy Risner made the rank of sergeant, Vicky White gave him the stripes for his collar.
“Every single morning when I would get off work, I called her and talked from the time I pulled out of the parking lot to the time I pulled into my driveway, and she never hesitated to answer and listen,’’ he said.
“When my babies were born, she was there. When my twins were born and had to stay in Huntsville hospital, she came and sat with me in the waiting room.
“When I went through my split up with Kristy, she offered me a place to stay.”
In October, when Nick Risner was shot, Vicky White called Billy Risner before he even made it to the hospital, he said.
“She was there for me without me having to ask her to be,’’ he said.
Billy Risner said when he first learned that Vicky White was missing and nobody knew yet that she had gone willingly, he put on his gear and offered to held search for her.
“After we figured out what had happened, I didn’t give up on her,’’ he wrote. “I sent her a text telling her that we really wanted her to just let someone know she was OK. "
“I hope she at least read it because when she was at her worse, I wanted her to know that I was still here for her,’’ Billy Risner said. “Vicky was like a mom to me and everyone else she mentored, and I’m going to miss her so bad.”
Vicky White’s graveside service was held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Center Hill Cemetery in Lexington.
The Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office posted this: “Rest in Peace Vicky White. I choose not to judge her on the worst decision she ever made in her life.”
