An Olympia man was being held Tuesday on suspicion of felony custodial assault after he allegedly swung a plastic bag of his own feces in a corrections deputy's face while in custody at the Olympia City Jail, court papers state.
Cody Ray Matson, 22, was being held at the Thurston County Jail Tuesday after a Superior Court judge found probable cause to support the allegation. Matson's bail was set at $5,000.
Olympia police initially arrested Matson at the Port of Olympia about 6:40 p.m. Monday, when port security reported seeing him climbing on one of the cranes at the port terminal, court papers state. Olympia officers arrested Matson on suspicion of criminal trespass.
Also according to court papers:
Corrections officers at the Olympia City Jail ordered Matson to take a shower. While taking a shower, Matson "defecated in the shower room, and apparently walked through the feces, spreading it around via his footsteps."
Corrections officers ordered Matson to clean the feces, giving him a mop, a rag and other items. Matson "ineffectively" cleaned up the shower area, and during this time, he tossed a rag with feces on it to the corrections officers, and was warned not to do so again.
Corrections officers then gave Matson plastic bags and ordered him to put the feces in the bag to clean up the mess.
When Matson had finished, he exited the shower area with the plastic bag of feces, and "intentionally swung" the bag up, hitting a corrections officer square in the face with it.
Matson's assault with the bag was captured on jail surveillance video. Due to possible exposure to feces, the corrections officer had to be treated at an area hospital.
Matson was rearrested and booked at the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of the custodial assault charge.
