Man Gets 15 Years for Assault on Oklahoma City Officer
Jan. 27--A Newcastle man was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for his role in an assault that left an Oklahoma City police officer partially paralyzed.
Cadmio Antonio Lopez, 32, also must serve 15 years on probation after he is released from prison.
Oklahoma County District Judge Kenneth Watson chose the punishment after hearing officer Chad Peery testify about his injuries.
Lopez was one of three men arrested after Peery was beaten Feb. 15 at Dan O'Brien's Public House in northwest Oklahoma City. Bartenders had asked Peery, who was off duty, to help remove the men.
Prosecutors said Lopez did not hit Peery but kept the officer's father from intervening in the assault.
Lopez pleaded guilty in November to assault and battery by means of force as is likely to cause death. He had sought only two years in prison.
The other two men are awaiting trial.
