Welcome to the new OFFICER Magazine
Welcome to OFFICER Magazine!
With 2020 behind us (and who isn’t thankful for that?) and the third decade of the new millennium ahead of us, who can’t be optimistic about the coming year? We in the Officer Media Group are excited and motivated to launch this new publication.
If you’ve been reading Law Enforcement Technology (LET) or Law Enforcement Product News (LEPN), you’ll likely see some familiar items in OFFICER. What you might not even notice as different is how the editorial content is focused. Online, on Officer.com, we have our content divided into “channels.” The channels serve different segments of law enforcement and are broken into the following topics: Vehicles & Fleet, Tactical, Training & Careers, On the Street, Investigations and Command/HQ. You’ll also see a regular section for Honoring the Fallen wherein we pay our respects to those in our profession who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
In past print publications, we have had an editorial focus dedicated month by month and tailored our content to the given month’s topic(s) of choice. Instead of following that traditional program, we’ve changed it up so that this magazine will have editorial content based on the channels... every month. In each issue of OFFICER Magazine you’ll find articles of interest dedicated to each channelized topic. When you think about it, no matter what your current assignment is, or what duty assignment you are trying to move into, you’ll find content here that is of value to you.
That said, please keep in mind that we attempt to serve all facets and all ranks of law enforcement. While LET was a purely management focused publication that was only distributed (via subscription) to those with the rank of Sergeant and above. LEPN was a purely product focused magazine and was distributed to those who primarily served in quartermaster or supply positions, although it was also open to others. OFFICER Magazine is a free subscription (in the United States) open to all ranks although we’ll still maintain our management focus. If you would be interested in subscribing, please visit this webpage and fill out the form: https://www.officer.com/subscribe
In the December issue of LET there was an article about profession-focused resolutions that might be of value to individual officers. In this issue you’ll find an article about agency-wide resolutions that might be of value. Keep in mind as you read through the editorial herein, you may find some content you think doesn’t apply to your agency. Perhaps that’s due to agency size, region, size of population served or other reasons. 100% applicability is nearly impossible when some agencies have fewer than five officers while others have tens of thousands. No matter the size of your agency, the basics of law enforcement remain the same. Constitutional law and restrictions apply across the board. Strategies and tactics, however, can vary widely based on the factors already listed.
Finally, we are open to all suggestions and feedback. My direct email is below and you can send email to our entire editorial team via [email protected]. Every article you find in OFFICER Magazine will also be posted online and, with a login account on our site, you can comment directly on each digital article. We look forward to your questions, comments, suggestions and even criticisms (if made politely). Courteous and respect for each other remains a necessity. Members of the Thin Blue Line family can disagree—but we all stand together even then.
Stay safe.
