The LET January/February 2020 issue covers a lot of new, exciting material, especially regarding several forms of protective gear. Fresh on our minds is the topic of firearms which you will see our SHOT Show coverage in the next issue. In order to give you a preview of newer firearms in anticipation of the expo, we cover a variety of related topics in this edition including tips to use on duty and off.  

First of all, we have a quick guide to subcompact and compact firearms. I looked into some of the newest weapons that are ideal for concealed carrying purposes. There is certainly a gun for everyone and every preference. Included are several options, specifications including recoil and over all comfort, along with additional reasons that will help you choose the best off duty weapon for you. We also cover holster options for the off duty weapon too since having the right holster can make a difference as well.

When it comes to daily on duty protective gear, it is important to have the right type of body armor. However, body armor can be cumbersome. How do you find that mix of solid protection while still keeping it lightweight and manageable? We have an active duty patrolman discuss new versions of plates and carriers that allow for comfort as well as breathability which as we all know is equally important. The right gear will make you more comfortable which will help your day go smoothly without compromising your own safety. It is important to have your K-9 officers equipped with protective gear just as it is for officers. Recently, the West Fargo Police Department (ND) was able to equip their K-9 unit with protective gear. Chief Jerry Boyer, said the K9s are members of the department and just like any officer, they want them protected so they can return home safely after their shift. Our Managing Editor collected a few products in protective gear for K-9s including an innovative helmet for K-9 officers.
