GREENFIELD, Indiana -- Recently released body camera video shows the heroics of a Greenfield police officer who rescued a woman from a burning vehicle earlier this month.

Patrolman Blake Crull was on routine patrol around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 9 when he drove upon a two-vehicle crash in the 4200 block of East US40, according to a news release.

The 5-year veteran of the Greenfield Police Department observed that one vehicle was on its top and was on fire and ran to the vehicle and called out for anyone inside. Inside of the vehicle he located a female occupant, later identified as 36-year-old Heather L. Fischer, who was trapped and seriously injured.

Crull searched for a way to get the woman out of the burning car and was finally able to pull her through a side window to safety. Footage from Crull's Body Worn by Utility camera show that just moments later, parts of the engine compartment began exploding.

"This woman may very well have died if not for the quick actions of  Patrolman Crull," officials said in a statement.

Fischer was transport to IU Methodist hospital with very serious injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was identified as 46-year-old Arturo A. Casimiro.  He was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail where charges were pending for Operating While Intoxicated resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a level 4 Felony; Operating While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction, a level 6 Felony and Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction within 10 Years, a level A Misdemeanor

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the crash.
