The New Jersey State Police has released dashboard camera video of a trooper rescuing an unconscious man from a burning car late last month.
Trooper Scott Behnke responded to the report of a vehicle that went off the roadway southbound in the express lanes of the Garden State Parkway at milepost 105 in Tinton Falls around 10:37 a.m. on May 27 after a driver suffered a medical episode and crashed, according to a news release.
When he arrived, the victim was unconscious and entrapped in the vehicle. Benhke knew the victim needed to removed from the smoking car and, with the assistance from passing motorists, was able to remove the victim through the passenger side window and carry him to a safe location.
The male victim regained consciousness and Behnke was able to render first aid until advanced life support arrived. The victim was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center and was later released.
"The quick actions of Tpr. Behnke saved the victim's life and helped prevent a serious tragedy," a statement from the New Jersey State Police reads.
