N.J. Troopers Save Hunter Wounded by Shotgun on Snowy Night

Jan. 29, 2024
New Jersey State Police troopers used tourniquets and chest seals to stabilize a hunter wounded by a shotgun and carried him in snowy conditions to a UTV that got him to an ambulance.

New Jersey state troopers saved a person earlier this month who was shot with a shotgun while hunting, police said.

The accident was at the Pequest Wildlife Management Area in Hampton Township shortly before 6 p.m. on Jan. 19, according to a State Police social media post.

They didn’t say what caused the shotgun to go off.

Troopers from Troop B Sussex used tourniquets and chest seals to stabilize the man before they carried him about 200 yards in snowy conditions to a waiting UTV that was used to get him to an ambulance, police said.

The hunter was then taken to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, they said.
