An Edgewater, Colorado police officer was critically injured following a struggle with a DUI suspect early Friday morning.
Cpl. Michael Nesbitt suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest during the physical altercation with 26-year-old Connor Dougherty, who was resisting arrest, according to KMGH-TV.
Dougherty, who was riding a motorized scooter, led officers on a brief pursuit that ended in the parking lot of Jefferson High School where he crashed. He then fought with several officers who were trying to restrain him as they attempted to get him into handcuffs.
Nesbitt was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries while Dougherty was also hospitalized for injuries he sustained in the scuffle.
Dougherty was later released from the hospital and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on several charges -- including second-degree assault of a peace officer.
According to KUSA-TV, Nesbitt made "guarded improvement" by Saturday afternoon but is still in critical condition.
