Student Injured in Shooting at Dallas High School; Suspect in Custody

Dallas police have taken a suspect into custody after "a confirmed active shooter" incident at a high school that left at least one student injured.

One person was injured and transported to a hospital after “an active shooter” incident at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas on Friday morning, authorities said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to the school at 5520 Langdon Road at 10:36 a.m. in response to a “confirmed active shooter incident,” a DFR spokesperson said.

A suspect reportedly is in custody.

Police sources told WFAA-TV that one student was injured in the shooting and the suspect was taken into custody around 11 a.m.

The current condition of the injured student is unknown.

In a statement on social media, Dallas ISD said, “All students and team members are safe at Wilmer-Hutchins High School as we have initiated our safety protocol. Police are on site to ensure our school remains secure. At this time, we ask for everyone to refrain from coming to the campus, as we limit access inside.”

The school district said parents will receive a letter with more details about what happened.
