Owner of SUV That Hit Phoenix Officer Arrested

May 20, 2013
Officer Daryl Raetz was fatally struck early Sunday while investigating a possible DUI incident.

The owner of an SUV involved in a hit-and-run that killed a Phoenix police officer on Sunday was arrested on unrelated drug charges.

Jesus Cabera Molina was arrested around 1:15 p.m. during a traffic stop near Thompson Ranch Road and Grand Avenue in Surprise, according to KNXV-TV.

Records show the 24-year-old was pulled over by an officer who recognized the SUV he was driving matched the description of a vehicle involved in the death of Officer Daryl Raetz earlier that morning.

Raetz was struck by the SUV near 51st Avenue around 3:30 a.m. while he was investigating a possible DUI incident.

Detectives were also able to match a part of the SUV found at the scene with the vehicle.

While conducting a search of Molina's vehicle during the stop, a small bag of cocaine was discovered and he was taken into custody.

Court records show the man admitted that he is an undocumented immigrant.

Police are currently working to confirm who was driving the SUV at the time of Raetz's death.
