May 18, 2012
Officers with the California Multi-jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team made several traffic stops and found one vehicle with 17 pounds of suspected meth in it.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.

On Wednesday evening at about 7:30 p.m., deputies and officers assigned to California Multi-jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team, along with officers and deputies assigned to various other task forces, used several traffic stops to conclude a narcotics investigation.

The investigation resulted in five people being arrested.

Arturo Beltran, 21 and Alberta Mojarra, 28, of Long Beach, were stopped in a 2010 Camry by task force members at the Shell Station near Highway 99 and Beal Mountain.

The Camry contained 17 pounds of methamphetamine, officials said.

When deputies approached, Mojarra ran from the Camry, officials said.

Deputies said Mojarra fought with deputies and a Tazer was used to take custody of Mojarra.

At the same time, deputies said they stopped a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta at South Union Avenue and Tiburon Street.

During the stop, the driver, Nicholas Monje, 27, of Bakersfield, ran from the vehicle, but was quickly arrested by deputies.

Deputies said they found two pounds of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

A third vehicle, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, was stopped near Colony Park Drive and Berkshire Road.

Deputies said they found a small amount of methamphetamine inside the Jeep.

The driver and passenger, Alexander Solis, 19, and Francisco Meza, 25, from Bakersfield, were both arrested.

All three vehicles were seized.

All five were arrested on charges of conspiracy, possession of methamphetamine, possession for sales and transportation of methamphetamine.

Cal-MMET was assisted in this case by High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, KCSO Major Violators Unit, Kern Narcotics Enforcement Team and the KCSO Gang Unit Special Operation Group.
