After Action Reviews must focus on training and real life and how we made the decision to take that action.

All too often when we do an After Action Review (AAR) in training we focus only on the ACTIONS taken by those taking the training.  What we really need to focus on, both in training and in real life, is HOW we made the decision to take that action.  We find our motivation and justification, right or wrong, inside the decision making process that occurs before the action.
